Closing Days using the Calendar

There will be times when the library is closed such as school holidays, weekends and bank holiday. Within the system there is a calendar that enables the user to mark these days so that the loan periods are adjusted accordingly, should a resource be due back on a weekend. For example, if the user marked all weekends as "closed" and a resource was due back on a Saturday, the system would adjust and increase the loan period so that the resource was due back the following Monday (or the next open day).

The other reason for closing certain days on the calendar is if you are enforcing overdue books or using fines. Should you wish to, you can exclude closed days from the fine or overdue calculation.

·Open the Calendar by selecting Tools / Calendar... from the top menu bar.

·The Calendar interface will display

·To start marking days as closed, simply select Close from the menu at the top left

·Select the year you wish to set the closed days/notes/force return for by using the left and right arrows

·Next, click the day (or click multiple days) you wish to mark as closed

Note that when you click a day, it turns blue to indicate that it has been marked as closed. In the example above, the first 2 weeks in April have been closed.

·To mark all weekends in the year as closed, rather than clicking each weekend you can click the Close Weekends button at the top right as a shortcut

After you click this button, all weekends in that year will be marked as closed (will turn blue)

·When you are happy with the changes you have made, click OK to apply them

Return dates affected by changes to the Calendar are not taken into effect for resources currently on loan, only new loans from this point forward. You will need to restart Circulate before these changes take effect.
