At some stage it will be necessary to remove and/or delete items from the library if a resource is no longer needed in the system or are no longer in stock. If the resources barcode needs replacing then it is not required to delete the book the barcode can be changed as per the topic Changing a Resource Barcode.

Removing Resources

When a resource is removed, it is sent to the recycle bin and also removed from any search results on the home screen. The item remains in the recycle bin in case it needs to be restored and for reporting purposes.

·Firstly, open the Resources table from the menu on the left.

·Locate the item that is to be removed and make sure it is highlighted.

In this example, only one book is being removed. However, it is possible to remove several resources in one go using Flagging, as described here. Once all the resources to be removed are selected, continue reading.

·Click Remove from the menu on the right.

·A prompt will display asking to confirm if the selected resource should be recycled. Click Yes.

·The resource(s) will be moved to the recycled resources section.

For details on restoring recycled items, see the topic Restoring Resources.

Deleting Resources

When a resource is deleted, it is removed entirely from the system. This means that the loan history for this resource along with the details will be removed.

Note that deleting resources cannot be undone! If resources are deleted, all associated loan history for those resources will be lost which will be reflected when reporting on historic data. Deleting resources will also remove any statement information associated with a record.

MLS recommend that you retain resources in the recycle bin where possible.

·To remove a resource from the catalogue, firstly open the Resources Recycle bin from the right menu.

The heading at the top of the page will now have Recycled Records next to the page view name to indicate that the recycled records section is open.

·Highlight the record(s) to remove.
