In some cases it may be desirable to place a restriction on an particular title in the catalogue. This may be in light of a book that is in higher demand than others, therefore you want to shorten the loan period so more people can borrow the resource. This can be done by locking restrictions of a specific title. When the restrictions are locked, this means that the restrictions define at the resource type level and the borrower level are overridden by those specified on the resource record.

The instructions in this topic explain how to lock the restrictions of a resource.

·Edit the resource that the restrictions are to be changed for and click the Advanced tab.

·Tick the Lock Restrictions check box

·You may notice that some or all of the restrictions are not editable. In the example above, the options for Loan Period, Maximum Renewals, Maximum Reservations, Maximum Fine and Fine Rate are greyed out. The tick boxes next to the options allow you to control the individual restriction settings. As an example, you may only wish to "lock" the loan period. In this case, tick the box so that the Loan Period box becomes available for editing.

·Enter the desired settings into the Loan Period, Maximum Renewals, Maximum Reservations, Maximum Fine and Fine Rate text boxes. For a full description of each of the settings, see the topic Resource Restriction Settings.

Note that the Minimum Age can be set without locking restrictions.

In the above example, the Loan Period, Maximum Renewals and Maximum Reservations have been set. Each of these restrictions will override the Borrower and Resource defaults. However, the Maximum Fine and Fine Rate restrictions will apply as normal.

·Click Save to confirm any changes and return to the Resources table.
